The short version

Strangest Animals is a free website about the weirdest creatures on the planet. Read it, enjoy it, share links to it. Please don’t copy our stuff wholesale, don’t try to break the site, and don’t use our animal facts as a substitute for a vet, a biologist or common sense. The full version is below.

1. Who runs this site

By using the site, you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the site. No hard feelings. The axolotl will understand.

2. What this site is (and what it isn’t)

Strangest Animals is an entertainment and general-education website. We write in a light, playful style, and we sometimes simplify, exaggerate for fun or round numbers to keep things readable.

We work hard to get our facts right and we check them against reputable sources, but science changes, animals get reclassified and populations go up and down. We can’t guarantee that every fact, figure, size or conservation status is complete, current or correct. If you spot a mistake, please tell us and we’ll fix it.

Nothing on this site is veterinary, medical, legal or scientific advice. Don’t rely on it for school grades without checking a second source, for keeping exotic pets, or for deciding whether that thing in your garden is venomous.

3. Using the site

You may use the site for your own personal, non-commercial purposes. When using it, you agree not to:

  • copy, republish or sell our content in bulk, or pass it off as your own;
  • scrape, crawl or download the site with automated tools, except for normal search engine indexing;
  • use our content to train or build artificial intelligence or machine learning models without our written permission;
  • try to hack, overload, disrupt or gain unauthorised access to the site or its servers;
  • use the site for anything illegal, or to harm animals or people.

4. Our content and copyright

The texts, design, logo, illustrations and the way everything is put together are owned by us or used with permission, and are protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws.

Some photos and videos belong to third parties (photographers, stock libraries, YouTube creators). They are used under licence or with permission and remain the property of their owners.

You’re very welcome to share links to any page and to quote a short excerpt with a clear credit and a link back to the original page. For anything more (republishing articles, using our photos, printing materials, commercial use), please ask us first.

5. Your messages and suggestions

If you send us a fact, a correction, an animal suggestion or other feedback, you allow us to use it to improve the site, free of charge and without having to credit you (although we’ll happily do so if you ask). Please don’t send anything confidential.

6. Links, videos and other websites

The site links to other websites and embeds content from third parties, such as YouTube videos. We don’t control those services and aren’t responsible for their content, availability or privacy practices. Their own terms and policies apply when you use them.

7. Advertising and affiliate links

To keep the site free, we may show ads or include affiliate links (for example to books, documentaries or wildlife charities). If you buy something through an affiliate link, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. This never changes what we write about an animal.

8. Copyright complaints

9. No guarantees
