Accessibility
We want everyone to enjoy the world’s strangest animals – including people who use screen readers, keyboard navigation, zoom or other assistive technology.
Our goal
StrangestAnimals.com aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, level AA. We build accessibility directly into the site instead of relying on add-on “accessibility widgets”.
What we have done
- Text and controls are designed with sufficient colour contrast.
- The whole site can be used with a keyboard, with a visible focus indicator and a “Skip to content” link.
- Images have text alternatives; decorative images are hidden from screen readers.
- Carousels, quizzes, menus and the size comparison announce their state to screen readers.
- Animations and parallax effects are turned off when your device is set to reduce motion.
- Pages can be zoomed and adapt to small screens.
Known limitations
- Videos are embedded from YouTube; the availability of captions depends on the original video.
- We are still improving the descriptions of some photos.
